THE CAMELLIAS APARTMENT 001
This apartment is a second home for a family of four whose primary residence is in Wimbledon, UK. Their brief called for a contemporary residence that retained an Indian sensibility—an environment shaped by their affinity for travel, art, and cultural memory. The design language is rooted in material clarity. Layered hard finishes, honed textures, and woven textiles establish a quiet but sophisticated architectural tonality. The spatial organisation centres on a generous entrance lobby, conceived as the primary node from which all public and private rooms, including four bedrooms, radiate. This planning strategy creates a coherent spatial narrative and a sense of deliberate arrival.
The living and dining areas function as a single, adaptable volume. Ceiling-height glass shutters allow the zone to modulate between an expansive space for entertaining and a more contained family setting. Daylight filters deep into the apartment, while unobstructed views of landscaped greens and golf courses extend the interior outward, reinforcing openness and visual calm.
A restrained palette of neutral monochromes forms the architectural base, punctuated by art, books, and considered upholstery. All furniture was designed in-house, employing inventive material juxtapositions and meticulous detailing to achieve a cohesive visual and tactile continuity throughout the home.
The result is a residence that is contemporary in expression, rooted in its cultural context, and spatially attuned to the rhythms of a family seeking both retreat and connection.
